With reference to Colonial Office letter 16645/5/41 of the 1st August, concerning the evacuation of British subjects from Hong Kong, I am directed by Mr. Secretary Eden to transmit herewith to be laid before the Secretary of State for the Colonies, a copy of a despatch from His Majesty's Consul-General at Manila, enclosing an account of expenditure incurred in this connexion. The original despatch is presumed to have been lost in transit, together with the relevant supporting documents; but it is understood that copies of the latter were also transmitted to the naval, military and civil authorities in Hong Kong.
